I’m Emily and I've owned dogs for my whole life and have been training my own and others dogs for about 20 years. I've been fascinated with dogs for as long as I can remember, from reading about them in my Dog Encyclopeadia written by Dr Bruce Fogle and in various story books, to playing with our crossbreed dog as a very young child, and then beginning my training journey with our newly adopted Heinz 57 when I was 8. When I was a child we still had people recommending choke chains and hitting dogs, rubbing noses in accidents etc, but even as a child I wasn't keen on this and before I read my first books on training, I had already figured out that food and toys were great training tools. My training journey has been quite intuitive. I taught myself through failure and success as a child, learned from various experienced dog people over the years, to finally deciding to take a degree and learn the true science behind animals and particularly training and behaviour.
I completed a Foundation Degree in Animal Management with a focus towards canines and human/animal interactions through careful choice of coursework. I studied general care, the science of behaviour, anatomy, physiology and biological processes, nutrition, reproduction and genetics. All of these will affect a dogs behaviour and training in some form or other. This means I am up to date on current scientific research. I sadly took a break after my FSc due to health issues which I am now managing. I often complete other courses, workshops and seminars to ensure I am up to date and as knowledgeable as possible.
Beyond dog training, I enjoy sports with my dogs such as bikejor and agility, dog showing. I also enjoy photography which can be seen at: violetwolfphotography.
I have Mouse the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog and we co-own a gorgeous Smooth Collie called Tequila. Sadly we recently lost our JRT Harvey in September 2018 and Serendipity our GSD in Sep 2019, they are very sorely missed. I have three children who all live wonderfully with our canine companions along with two cockatiels, a parrot and ferrets. Our family enjoys lots of countryside walks with our dogs as they are a big part of our family and the kids also enjoy showing.
